Fostering a new spirit

CIOSA on Dgroups – A space for ongoing discussion

To facilitate sharing and collaboration between members, CIOSA set up a discussion forum on Dgroups in 2004. Through this forum, members receive at least one mail every day. The forum is a way to maintain daily communication between members. It helps in sharing the latest news in the development sector, events organized by our members and also about various funding opportunities for NGOs. A CIOSA survey to which 89 NGO members responded shows that 63% of them were actively using the Dgroups on a daily basis.

Serving through volunteers

CIOSA mobilises volunteers in two ways - one, through CIOSA's own efforts to promote volunteering and two, through partnerships with other organisations.

Till date, CIOSA's own efforts have placed over 250 volunteers and facilitated 4 corporate volunteering programmes.

Among joint efforts to promote volunteering, the Teach India project is a notable initiative. CIOSA played a significant role in this initiative to mobilise and manage volunteers who would make a big contribution to India's literacy improvement and education efforts. A social initiative from the Times of India, Teach India brings together children in need of education and people who can contribute a little time to teach them. As one of the affiliates of the Teach India project, CIOSA conducted mass orientation programmes. Over 1500 volunteers attended the orientation. From this group, 380 people worked as CIOSA volunteers in 20 NGOs across Chennai.
